Security Specialist

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing security systems and make recommendations for changes or improvements
  • Mid-level position that provides support with planning, coordinating, and implementing the organization’s information security.
  • Provides support for facilitating and helping agencies identify their current security infrastructure and define future programs.
  • Designs and implements security related to IT systems. Possesses the ability to serve as Information System Security Officer.
  • Primarily responsible for providing highly technical and specialized guidance and solutions to complex security problems; performing analyses and studies; preparing reports and providing presentations to management; performing duties independently or as a member of a team, providing technical input to the Senior Security Specialist related to FISMA issues and when required, providing technical input to the reporting team.
  • Prepare reports and action plans in the event that a security breech does occur
  • Organize and conduct tests and “ethical hacks” of the existing security architecture
  • Monitor the network and provide early warning of abnormalities or problems
  • Upgrade systems regularly to remain competitive in the field of security
  • Communicate the system status and keep users informed of downtime or changes to the system
  • Keep technical knowledge current through continuing education
  • Provide system updates and write code fixes

Job Requirements

  • Active IRS MBI clearance is a plus.
  • Post-secondary degree in system administration, network security, network administration or a related field
  • At least five years of experience in system support
  • Knowledge of current security risks and protocols
  • Willingness to work on-call in the event of a security breech or other emergency
  • Good analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under close supervision, as well as the ability to take independent initiative when needed
  • Minimum 2.5 years of experience as a SECURITY SPECIALIST.
  • Minimum Education: Associate’s Degree.
  • Presents a working knowledge in many areas including understanding business security practices and procedures, knowledge of currently available security tools, implementation of hardware/software security, various communication protocols, encryption techniques/tools, familiarity with commercial products and current Internet/EC technology.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of security.
  • Demonstrates very good oral and written communication skills.
